Why are all stories chronicles of success, narratives of conquests, tales of happy endings? Why do we fail to see that the stories could have been the other way round, for every success means someone else's failure, every war won means a loss for the other side and every conquest by the conquerer means a forfeiture by the conquered.
It is only a matter of luck that the outcome was in your favor because the mistakes you made this time weren't as grave as the mistake made by your competitor. The end result would have been very different if you had done something else. You might have been the one that failed, the one that had been conquered!
Reveling in the victory makes sense but that doesn't mean that it is the end. It only gets tougher from there. Expectations, presumptions, and overconfidence- the evils of all times...
