I'll start with my reaction. Let me tell u that I'm a bit slow with my reactions, so because the incident took only 5-6 secs to occur it didn't really strike to me that we could die. HA HA!!
But the person sitting infront of me n everyone else was so shaken. They thanked God for saving them. They speculated what could have happened n blah blah!!
All this time I was thinking, why are we so all afraid of death. Is it because of the unexpected? i.e. we don't know what happens after death. What happens after we die? There are so many theories- the concept of going into a tunnel meeting, then the person u were the most close to n that person holding your hand and taking u towards light; the concept of hell and heaven, etc etc. All these are so interesting to read. But, do we need to complicate things so much.
Another reason I can think of is that we haven't seen n experienced so many things yet. So, does that mean you r not satisfied with your life. Then y r u letting such a situation come. Death could come at anytime, maybe today, maybe after 60 years. Why deny this fact? Why ask for another day? why let such situations come up that u have to ask for another day? Why not make a conscious effort not to sour relationships and betray people, make an effort to be happy and to make people happy around you.
There can be a thousand other reasons, but tell me do we even need to think about these reasons? Why cant we believe that nothing happens, that we just die. N there is nothing apart from that that happens. No soul and no after life.
Yeah, maybe a afterlife, but in the minds of people i.e. that people remember you. When they think about you they feel happy, they think about the happy times you had with them. That is the only afterlife I can think of. I personally do this a lot. I was very close to my grandfather. Whenever I'm extremely troubled, I just close my eyes and imagine him sitting in front of me. And I discuss my problems/worries with him. Seeking a solution from him. Though he never talks backs but i know he is listening. All the time he is stroking my head or patting my back, showing that he is there. I feel lighter after this and am able to think of a solution also!! According to me, this is afterlife. (Ah! i moved away from the topic)
N moreover, why be scared of something you've never seen. Why be scared of death when it is the only inevitable thing in life.
I really liked it when you said, "...make an effort to be happy and make people happy around you." I think almost everyone (esp. nowadays) are thinking of what they don't have rather than thanking the Almighty of what blessings they do have. To make an effort to appreciate things you have and be thankful for them everyday is to make an effort to be happy. Also, people are so caught up in their own personal lives that they can't even take a second look at others. It'll make all the difference. And I miss my grandfather too.
ReplyDeleteThe fear that people have is not of the after life that we after dieing will get .. coz that is completely unknown .. .
ReplyDeletethe fear is always of the fact that people are unsatisfied ..
They will defer doing somethings till eternity .. , but if you tell them they are going tonight .. those things will be first on their minds ..
So, the best way is to get a writting pad and jolt down 101 things that you want to do before you die .. and go in thier pursuit ...
That will surely evaporate one;s fear of death ..
Thats more like conquiring death.
I had made my list long back ... :)
Hmm... I agree and disagree with you. There are two kinds of pursuits we have- first one is the materialistic prusuits and the other one more relating to taking care of family and friends.
ReplyDeleteThe first one will never end... I have an endless list of things I want to do. But, why shud one be unsatisfied that they weren't able to do it?
The other one is the one relating to people. All i wud say is why let a situation come up which leaves u dissatisfied.
N also eternity does not exist. When u die, u die. Eternity is irrelevant in this context.
Just a few things noteworthy here...
ReplyDelete1.) defering it till eternity .. means .. deferring it until god knows when... :(
2.) About pursuits.. as you are saying materialistic, you might be right in saying that you have an endless list. But , the point is is you cant have anything in one day. So, you have to work for this .. and allow time when it will come to you. What i meant was , if I am told I was to die today . I am sure I wont start crying because I could not become richest man or I could not buy a mercides. These things doesnt even come to mind. I want to fulfill things that will come when death is un-expected and a second away. They are more related to your clear conscience, self-esteem and satisfaction. The satisfaction that one should have while living in present.
How many of the people do have a good self esteem. All know that they are flawed in one way or the other resulting in low self esteem.
So , I am satisfied with my present, I wont be afraid of things left undone, unfinished. and that is achievable through once consistent and dedicated effort.
1) agreed

My best part of the blog was "Yeah, maybe an afterlife..but in the minds of people"..this just shows that the priority for you is making ur peers be happy and close to you. You want them to remmeber you wen u r gone.
ReplyDeleteAnd ..Yah, We are afraid of death if we arnt sure what would happen after death...bcoz, if we know this, den we cud be mentallly prepared for it.
So if someone truely belives in what would happen after death, be it a religious belief..then he is sure to be less afraid of death.
ahh !! I really liked it. I think we r afraid of dying because we feel we havent done enough ... be it be materialistic greeds or be it be a desire to be loved more.
ReplyDeleteNo body knws wen they will have the chance to ring the door bell amongst the clouds ... if some ppl remember u wen u r gone then as a traveller dats job done !!
Hmmm Now Start.........My answer might sound a little too philosophical and idealistic but here it is :

Yes .. the whole idea behind our existence . We are afraid to lose our identities .
Whatever we did for our whole lives would vanish at that moment . We don't want to think how pointless our lives were , I mean what was the point of earning so much money if you can't use it anymore , what about the respect you have earned that you won't get anymore . Whatever we did would go away with death .
I am not talking about people remembering you ... if you did good to them , they will . But what about us . Most of us tend to think that the body we have is us . We relate our entire existence to the body . The body is me . I am the body . With death your body vanishes ( so to say ) and thus one tends to think so does one .
Again this is my personal opinion ... you may think differently .
